Congratulations to Troop 62's Newest Eagle Scouts!

Congratulations to Troop 62's newest Eagle Scouts, Alexander Clayton Tibbens and Joshua Alexander Yoder. On November 13, 2010 the scouts and their friends and family celebrated at Bethel United Methodist Church in Chewsville, MD!

The distinguished guests who attended were MD Senator Elect and Delegate Chris Shank, Delegate Andrew Serafini, Smithsburg Mayor Mickey Myers, Mason Dixon Council President, Mark Barbernitz, Eagle Scout Gerald Cump, Chairman of the Elks Americanism Committee, Eagle Scout Dick Humbet of the International Order of the Odd Fellows.

Alex began scouting when he was in 4th grade as a Bobcat with Cub Scout Pack 34 in Hagerstown, MD. He worked his way through the ranks earning many belt loops. Alex earned the God and Family Religious Emblem. Alex earned Cub Scouting's highest award, the Arrow of Light.

In February 2006, Alex crossed over from Cub Scouts into Boy Scouts, joining Boy Scout Troop 62 in Chewsville, MD. Alex has served as patrol leader, assistant patrol leader, patrol scribe and den chief to Pack 34. To date, Alex has earned 22 merit badges. He is a member of the Order of the Arrow, Guneukitschik Lodge #317. He became an Ordeal member in June 2008. Alex earned the God and Church Religious Emblem in March 2009. Alex has attended Sinoquipe Summer Camp for 4 consecutive years. He enjoyed a week long High Adventure Trek to Atikokan, Ontario, Canada to the Northern Tier area in July 2009. Alex also enjoyed a once in a lifetime experience when he attended the National Boy Scout Jamboree in July 2010 at Fort AP Hill, VA.

Alex completed his Eagle Project in September 2009 at the Chewsville Community Center. He planned, organized and supervised the removal of oversized bushes and shrubs and the planting and mulching of flower beds. His project included painting the shutters as well as restriping the parking lot.

Josh began scouting when he was in the 2nd grade as a Bobcat scout in Cub Scout Pack 14 in Smithsburg. He moved through the ranks earning many belt loops and academic pins as well as the Family Award with much support from his Den Leader, Col. Don Brown. Josh earned the God and Family Religious Emblem. Josh earned Cub Scouting's highest award, the Arrow of Light.

In February 2006, Joshua crossed over from Cub Scouts into Boy Scouts, joining Boy Scout Troop 62 in Chewsville, MD. Joshua has served as a patrol scribe, assistant patrol leader, patrol leader, historian, assistant senior patrol leader and senior patrol leader. To date, Josh has earned 40 merit badges. Josh is a member of the Order of the Arrow, Guneukitschik Lodge 317. He became an Ordeal member in June 2008 and received his Brotherhood in June 2010. He has attended summer camp at Camp Sinoquipe for 5 consecutive years. He enjoyed a week long High Adventure Trek to Atikokan, Ontario, Canada to the Northern Tier area in July 2009.

Joshua's Eagle Project was to beautify the Chewsville Community Center Playground. Joshua planned, organized and supervised the digging of sod under each of 8 pieces of playground equipment and had the sod hauled off and replaced with mulch. He replaced the baby swings and also built 2 wooden benches for families to sit and enjoy watching their children play.
